Hygiene Services

At Sechelt Dental Centre, our practice is grounded in a strong focus on preventive dental hygiene care as a cornerstone of oral and systemic health. Scientific evidence continues to support the connection between periodontal health and overall health, including its associations with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cognitive decline, respiratory conditions, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. By emphasizing regular hygiene assessments, personalized risk-based care, and patient education, we aim to reduce the burden of oral disease and support long-term wellness. Our hygienists play a central role in delivering comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Services include:

Removal of plaque, tartar (calculus), and surface stains above and below the gumline.

Non-surgical treatment for gum disease by cleaning below the gumline to smooth root surfaces.

Ongoing care for patients with a history of gum disease, typically on a 3–4 month schedule.

Application of fluoride to strengthen enamel and prevent cavities, especially in children and at-risk adults.

Personalized education on brushing, flossing, and home care techniques.

Regular assessment of gum health to detect inflammation or infection early.

Polishing teeth to remove surface stains and leave teeth feeling smooth and clean.  Clean, polished surfaces attract less plaque and calculus.  We utilize the latest air polishing system (a fine mist of water, air, and powder) available to remove more difficult stains effectively and efficiently.

Application of special agents to reduce sensitivity in exposed root surfaces or after cleanings.

Visual and manual examination of soft tissues for signs of oral cancer or abnormalities.
