Dr. Lorne Berman has now retired from clinical practice. Lorne was the former owner and principal operator of the Sechelt Dental Centre, where he had practiced with passion and dedication for over 50 years and whose creative vision contributed to the practice you see today.

Dr. Berman graduated from the University of Toronto in the 1970’s and came to B.C. for his first position, working for the provincial government in remote underserved communities, using portable equipment he carried in his VW van. A chance camping trip to the Sunshine Coast led to the offer of an Associate position in Sechelt. Shortly after accepting this opportunity and forgoing his plan to return to dental school for specialty training in Oral Surgery, Dr. Berman became the new owner of the Sechelt Dental Centre. For much of his career he also worked with Vancouver Coastal Heaalth, attending patients at  Sechelt Hospital, and residents of Shorncliffe and Totem Lodge.

In 2020, Dr. Berman received the Merit Award from the British Columbia Dental Association, an honour recognizing individuals whose achievements have made significant contributions to the dental profession—locally, provincially, or nationally—and who demonstrate exceptional dedication to community service or advancing dental health.

Our Hygienists

Since graduating from UBC, Christine has been passionate about helping people feel confident in their smiles.  She grew up in a small town, which taught her the value of community and connection – something she carries with her in both her personal and professional life.  Christine and her husband recently made the move to the beautiful Sunshine Coast with their three kids, and they love every minute of it – when she is not in the clinic, you’ll find her hiking forest trails, swimming in the ocean, or spending quality time with her family.  Christine is excited to bring her skills and enthusiasm for oral health to this new community and happy to embrace the vibrant lifestyle that the Sunshine Coast offers.

Monika was born in North Vancouver, and at age 10, her family moved to South America. She spent much of her childhood in Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as well as Quito, Ecuador, where she became fluent in four languages: English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Monika began her career as a certified dental assistant before completing her Diploma in Dental Hygiene at the Vancouver Vocational Institute. She spent the first 12 years of her career at a clinic in North Vancouver where she treated a diverse range of clients and valued the diversity of the community she served.

Her passion for education led her to complete the Degree Completion Program at the University of British Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, followed by a Provincial Instructor Diploma. Monika later worked as a radiology instructor at the Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene until her interest in periodontics drew her back to clinical practice.  Today, Monika is proud to still be part of a periodontal team that travels regularly to Terrace, B.C., providing care to underserved patients in the region.

Monika now lives in Sechelt, where in her free time, she enjoys swimming, boating, camping, and harvesting crabs from the beach with her family. Monika appreciates taking time to relax, read, and express her creativity.  She likes to explore the coastal trails—especially in the early mornings, listening to the sounds of the birds.
